Aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma that developed rapidly after open-heart surgery
Thank you for your interesting comment [1] about our article.
On transthoracic echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography, papillary fibroelastoma was not identified at the time of the previous surgery. After discharge from our hospital, transthoracic echocardiography was performed in this patient every year, but abnormal findings on the aortic valve were not reported until one year before the second surgery. Your comment may be right, but we think that papillary fibroelastoma with a diameter of 3–5 mm developed over a period of one year because transthoracic echocardiography performed one year before did not reveal an abnormal mass on the aortic valve. As you know, it has been reported that papillary fibroelastoma tends to grow very slowly; therefore, we are sure that the development of papillary fibroelastoma with a 3–5 mm diameter over a one-year period reflects rapid growth.
