Aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma that developed rapidly after open-heart surgery
An interesting case [1]. The authors have mentioned that the first open heart procedure was done in 2003. However, there is no mention as to when the papillary fibroelastomas (PFE) were detected. In this light, I question the appropriateness of using the term rapidly growing. Further, there is a distinct possibility that the PFEs were in fact present during the first surgery but were missed as the aortic valve must not have been visualised during surgery for atrial embolectomy.
