Emergency conversion in off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting
eComment: Other risk factors for conversion [1] could be decreased left ventricular (LV) function. Vohra [2] recently reported favorable outcomes of elective use of intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) for the patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) in patients with either poor LV function (ejection function less than 30%), left main disease or unstable angina. In 2005, elective preoperative IABP was used in 8 patients with poor LV function, less than 30% scheduled for elective OPCAB in our institution. These IABP were removed a few hours after surgery. There were no IABP related complications. All patients completed OPCAB (number of revascularized vessels 3.4±1.3) without cardiopulmonary bypass support.
